I've been thinking for quite awhile now, about opening a Cafe Press Shop and using some of my crazy quilt pieces on greeting cards and journals.
It's taken me all day to just to figure out the site and how to list products. Not nearly as easy as Etsy and Ebay but I finally figured it out! I still have some work to do but I have a good start now!
I started with some of my Christmas projects thinking that someone might want to have some unique Christmas Cards! I'm going to order some for myself too!
These are blank greeting cards meaning you can add your own message inside. They can be ordered as single cards or in groups of 10 and groups of 20. These designs are also available on Journals!
When I have time, I'll add some everyday cards and journals and maybe try some of the other products.
For now, here is the link if you're interested in some really cool Christmas Cards for your stitching friends! http://www.cafepress.com/kittyandmedesigns

Free Crazy Quilt Blog Background
I've been playing around with creating my own blog backgrounds. I've done a couple but this morning, decided to do a crazy quilt design.
If you would like to use this on your blog as well, please be my guest:
Copy and paste this code in your HTML gadget:
<style type="text/css">
body { background-image : url(https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4339/35553708674_0a26d16e49_o.jpg); background-position: center; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-attachment : fixed; }
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
var div = document.createElement('div');
div.setAttribute('style',"position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 30px; z-index: 50; width: 150px; height: 45px;");
div.innerHTML = '<a target="_blank" href=" "></a>';
document.getElementsByTagName('body').item(0).appendChild(div);
</script>
I'll do a few more when I have time. I only know how to do these for Blogspot. If you have a different blog venue, I'm afraid I can't help. If you have any trouble with this, please let me know.
Enjoy!

Broderie Perse
Well, it took me about an hour but I was able to get the tension straightened out on my electric machine yesterday. I had to fiddle with both the top tension as well as the bobbin tension. I didn't get my door hangers sewn together but at least I don't have to mess with the machine tomorrow.
I thought I'd talk a little bit today about my goals for Crazy Quilt Quarterly magazine. First and foremost, I took it on because I wanted to continue on with what Pat Winter started. She created a beautiful way for stitchers to share projects, ideas, tutorials, patterns and eye candy with other Crazy Quilters. Let's face it,, we can't have time to stitch and have time to be online looking around constantly. So the magazine gives everyone a chance to share with each other and learn from each other in a really beautiful condensed format.
Another goal, a very long term goal and perhaps not even a do-able goal, is to end the debate over whether Crazy Quilting is Quilting or Embroidery. When I was talking to brick and mortar store owners in regards to the 2015 Crazy Quilt Calendar, the quilt shops looked at crazy quilting as embroidery and the needlework shops looked at it as quilting. This story I'm sure is quite familiar to many long time crazy quilters. Neither niche wants to accept it. I'd like to help quilters to see it as quilting with embroidery and needleworkers to see it as embroidery on quilts. Again, this may not be do-able or maybe it is. Rome wasn't built in a day, right?
So in thinking about what steps could be taken to accomplish this mission, Broiderie Perse came to mind. If you've been following Allison Aller for awhile, you're probably aware of what Broiderie Perse is. It's really not as fancy as it sounds! It's simply a type of applique work. It has a long and interesting history which you can find here at Women Folk.
Since applique work is quite accepted in the quilting community, I thought we would start there. I have some beautiful chinz fabrics with gorgeous florals on them. All courtesy of my favorite decorating store who kindly and generously gives me their outdated fabric sample books. I decided to start working this technique into my crazy quilt pieces and hopefully, other crazy quilters will follow (hint, hint)!
The piece I'm working on right now is my block for the 2016 Crazy Quilt Calendar. I don't want to share the entire block at this time but I do want you see what I'm doing with the floral piece.
If you're not aware of this technique, I ironed my floral fabric to a piece of fusible web. I cut the flower pattern out and ironed it down onto my block. Using YLI silk thread, I did a tiny blanket stitch all the way around. So not only is it fused, but it's also stitched in place.
To further secure (decorate) it, I'm highlighting the flowers with Kreinik metallic threads. I'm using the #4 braids. I've only just started on this step so I will share an update when I have the highlighting complete.
Again, this is not new. Allie has used this technique many times on her beautiful quilts. It looks more difficult than it actually is. In fact, the blanket stitching can be done on the sewing machine. I love the hand work but there's nothing wrong with sewing machine work either.
Okay, so where am I going with this? I would like to encourage all the crazy quilters out there to give it a try! It's an awesome design element and an excellent (easy) embellishment! I will be using more of this techique on future projects. But I would like to see other crazy quilters try this and send me photos for the magazine!!! Let's work together on this goal, doable or not, let's give it a try! One step at a time!
Okay, with all that said, I would like to point you in the direction of Gerry Krueger's blog. She was asked to identify some old sewing tools! I love the history of anything but esp. the history of sewing items. So please hop over and read this post!!!

This is for an upcoming project:
Don't you feel like there's an air of mystery surrounding my blog? It's kind of like, you know what I'm doing without really knowing what I'm doing? LOL!!! Yeah, me too! Ha, ha, ha!
BTW - this is one of my little cross stitch designs. I designed and stitched this yesterday for an upcoming crazy quilt project.

Instead of writing one big long blog post today, because I have loads of things to share, I thought I would do a couple of short posts. Simple and sweet!!!
So for now, I thought I would share photos of my Girl With A Kitten Crazy Quilt piece:

Happy Pink Saturday! My Pink Needlework!
Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to be participating in Pink Saturday again this week!
Today, I thought you would enjoy seeing my Pink Needlework. I adore needlework. I always say I was born with a needle in my hand. My mom and grandma taught me to stitch when I was around 8 years old. I've done everything from old-fashioned outline embroidery (I've been collecting vintage embroidery transfer patterns for years), to needlepoint, punch needle embroidery, counted cross stitch, art quilting, Elizabethan Blackwork and so on. I've done almost every type of needlework imaginable! My absolute passion is crazy quilting.
With that said, I will get on with my pink photos! First, my little kittens in a basket:

I stitched this piece a few years back. It currently hangs in my bathroom. The pattern is a vintage Vogart embroidery pattern. My dad made the simple frame and I hand painted it.
The next piece is a decorative towel that I made for my bathroom a few years ago. It's a peekaboo kitty and also from a vintage Vogart embroidery pattern:

This pretty project hangs in my computer/craft supply room. It's a design I did awhile back when I was designing counted cross stitch for magazines. It's called, "Garden Jewels". I adore hummingbirds and I thought they would be pretty with some colorful fruit. I did not stitch this piece. It was worked by my dear friend Kim:

This lovely pillow is another design from my large collection of vintage embroidery transfer patterns. I crayon tinted the cardinal bird and then did the embroidery:

This pillow is a small piece that I stitched back in the 80's. It was a pre-stamped design:

Here's how they look sitting in my white wicker rocking chair:

I bought this precious little sampler at a flea market this past October. I only paid $12.00 for it! All that stitching and it was only $12.00!!! There's something really sad about that. At least to me. Anyway, it's dated on the back and was stitched in the mid-70's. I left it in the original frame:

Last but not least, is my Pink Crazy Garden Quilt. I know many of my followers have seen this numerous times but in case anyone visits who hasn't seen it, I thought I'd post it again. As I said, Crazy Quilting is my true passion:

That's my Pink Saturday post everyone! I hope you enjoyed seeing my Pink Needlework!
I'd like to thank Beverly at How Sweet The Sound blog for graciously allowing me to participate in Pink Saturday. I so much enjoy it! Please hop over to Beverly's blog and visit some of the other Pink Participants!

Winter Crazy Quilt Project
On Saturday morning, I gave Mary Anne's Impossible Chocolate Pie a try. Oh my goodness! It's absolutely sinful! My father said it was dangerous! Ha, ha, ha! I took photos but, my photos were fuzzy so I don't have one to share. I just thought I'd mention that it's a wonderful, very rich dessert and if you want to give it a try, you won't be sorry. You can find the recipe here at Magpie's Mumblings. Thank you Mary Anne!
Susan asked me what I do with all my baking since Scott and I don't eat much of it. I give most of it to my father and my neighbors. The fun for me is making it and the way it makes my kitchen smell. My mom always jokes, that the only reason I have a kitchen is because it came with the house. LOL! I'm really not into cooking. It doesn't do a thing for me. I can make basic stuff like soup, chili and so on but it's the baking that I love.
Sue mentioned that she really enjoys whatever photos I post, be it stitching, sewing, baking or whatever. Thank you for your message Sue!
I was over-stressing (no wonder I had a breakdown) over staying on topic. My anxiety levels have always been off the charts! But as you can see, I'm loosening up a bit. From now on, I'm just going to talk about whatever I feel like talking about. There will be plenty of stitching, new designs (as soon as my desire to design comes back) and other craft related topics but there will also be my baking and probably some gardening photos come Spring & Summer. Maybe I'm starting to let go of some things and perhaps I won't be so uptight anymore.
Well, speaking of Spring & Summer, I started sewing up some blocks today for a new quilt project. I sewed up 4 blocks and have 5 more to do. I decided to do something light and airy to help me get through the dreaded Winter months ahead. Ya'll know how I feel about Winter!
Anyway, I've been collecting vintage machine-embroidered handkerchiefs for years now. I have a whole hatbox full of them! I pulled 9 out with different colored flowers:

The blocks are 8 inches square and are pieced all in a variety of white fabrics. I want my stitching and beading to really pop but I want the quilt to be soft looking. As soon as I get the last 5 blocks pieced, I'll share another photo of them all before I start stitching on them.
I'm still working on my Vogart dresser scarf with the kitties. It's taking me a wee bit longer than I anticipated. If I'd stay away from my Kitchenaid for awhile, I would be able to get it done!

Needlecraft Embroidery & Fancywork Catalog
Yesterday, I started to post a booklet that I have on Cutwork & Filet Lace. Robin left me a message saying that The Skinner Sisters offer this on CD on their website.
With a bit of sadness, because I was excited about this sharing my booklet with my readers, I have decided to withdraw from posting this so as not to infringe on the Skinner Sisters business. Instead, I will offer the link to their website so my readers can order it if they choose to do so.
The Skinner Sisters website.
I will share with you another catalog that I have. This one is called Needlecrafts - Embroidery & Fancywork. There is no date on this catalog but judging from the projects and the prices, I would say that it's from the 1930's.
So, here are the front cover and page 1:

Be sure to click on the images to go to my Flickr site where you can see the large version.
Again, I will put these in a folder over at Flickr and store them there.

1926 Italian Cutwork & Filet Lace Booklet
As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I have a booket from 1926 by Variety on Italian Cutwork & Filet Lace. Each day, I will scan 2 pages and post them here for your reading and stitching enjoyment!
I have not tried this technique so I can't comment on the quality of the instructions but I do feel that it's a treasure and I wanted to share it with my readers.
I will set up another folder for it over on my Flickr site and store the entire booklet there:

As I mentioned, this was published in1926 in Boston, Mass by Carmela Testa & Co., Inc.

Easter Purse Continued
A quick update on my Easter purse:

I'll be sewing the pink appliqué down today. I plan to add some SRE embroidery to it and of course beads and sequins!
I love the pastel colors and I know this will be perfect to take when Scott & I go to breakfast on Easter morning.
The seam treatments are my own charted borders for Waste Canvas. I've done so many of these borders, that I have a hard time choosing which to use sometimes. I do have my favorites and many times, it's a matter of theme or fitting the space. I am planning on putting Volume 2 together. I want to pick up some PDF software to put it together myself. Volume 2 will only be borders. The instructions for working with Waste Canvas are available in Volume 1. Click here to learn more.
In the meantime, here are pages 35 & 36 of my 1936 Herrschner's Catalog:

Aren't these dresses something? Oh, I would so wear these! Wait until you see the next couple of pages!
Ok, I'm off for now to list a few 6 inch blocks in my Etsy shop.

Easter Purse
Well, it's minus 17 degrees outside but it is bright and sunny! Isn't January over with yet?!
I finished up my little cat doll for The Comfort Doll Project:

I need to get me in a sewing day. I have 4 purses to put together now and 3 Comfort Dolls! I was planning on doing finishing this weekend but I think my in-laws are coming so it might have to wait until during the week.
This morning, I started on an Easter purse:

Doesn't it feel good just to look at this? So Springy! This is how I deal with the Winter season. I focus on Spring.
Honestly ladies, I don't know where to store anymore purses! I have so many now and they're everywhere. In my closet, in my nightstand and in my dresser. I can't help myself, I love them and it's so much fun to have seasonal purses as well as purses to match some of my outfits. Ok, so this time of year, they don't have to match my outfits, they just have to match my coat which they all do because it's black.
Ok, I'm rambling now. Sorry, cabin fever. I haven't been out since Monday!
Anyway, here are pages 33 & 34 of my 1936 Herrschner's Catalog:

There's only a few more pages to go on this catalog and then we'll move on to another catalog or a booklet. I didn't realize I had so many fun things to share!
Enjoy!
Still Snowing
It's still snowing here. I pulled out my little white bunny yesterday and put him on my coffee table. He kind of cheers things up and makes it feel more Springy.
I didn't start a new project but rather instead, I did some sewing. I sewed up an Easter purse block which you'll see in the near future and then I did some cat dolls and some 6 inch blocks:

The Brocade on the top of the cat is one of my newest pieces of fabric. I bought it at JoAnn's on New Year's Eve. I couldn't wait to use it on something! Anyway, I've added the pre-sewn cat dolls to my Etsy shop and I'll add the 6 inch blocks when I have some free time.
Meanwhile, the 1936 Herrschner's Catalog continues. Here are pages 25 & 26:
