First, I want to say thank you to everyone for leaving me such kind comments regarding my latest endeavor. I'm thrilled to be the new owner and publisher of Pat Winter's beautiful Crazy Quilt Gatherings magazine. I will write more about that in a 2nd post for today but first, I want to share my White Peacock Crazy Quilt Purse:
As you know, I don't spare the embellishments on my projects! That's one of the things I love about crazy quilting. No rules, no limits.
I think I mentioned yesterday that I'm going to stitch up a couple of my Cat Dolls. I'm doing a craft show in May and I think they'll do well. I also have a few more brooches to finish up on. I thought these would be nice for Mother's Day and for my craft show. Please stop by again to see these projects!

Peacock Purse Almost Done!
I just finished sewing up my Peacock Purse:
All I have left to do is to hand sew the trims to the purse. I'll do that later today and then post a final photo tomorrow.
I was going to start another purse since I have one more sewn up but decided to do a few of my little cat dolls for now instead. I'm going to be doing a craft show later in the Spring and a few new cat dolls might go over well. I mean, who doesn't like cats? LOL!!!
Anyway, I had a few cat doll blocks all sewn up in my stash so I pulled them out this morning and will start stitching on those next.
In other news, I'd like to invite you to stop by again this evening for a big and very exciting announcement!!! Well, I'm excited and I hope you will be too! I'm bouncing off the walls here!!!

Peacock Purse Stitching Complete
I finished up the stitching on my Peacock Purse and I crocheted some trim and then did some tatted trim for it:
The crocheted piece only took me about 1/2 and hour to do but the tatted piece took a good 8 hours. I just felt that's what it needed so I did it.
I hope to get this sewn together tomorrow and then I can do the hand finishing tomorrow evening. When it's done I'll post another photo.
In the meantime, Mom finished a few new Easter Decor items:
I printed up some vintage Easter postcards on fabric for mom and she made the door hangers from those and then the bunny doll is made from a vintage quilt that I bought for her at a flea market last Summer.
I have another purse all pieced and ready to stitch on so I'll share that when I get started on it.

Peacock Purse Almost Done
I thought you would enjoy a little update on my current Crazy Quilt project:
The peacock's tail will overhang the side of the purse. When I sew this together, I'll have to pin the tail feathers up so they don't get caught in the side seams.
I have a little more stitching to do on this but I expect to have it ready to sew together tomorrow.
In other news, Pat Winter has released the Spring 2014 issue of her Crazy Quilt Gatherings Magazine:
This is available at Magcloud.
And the Shabby Lane Shops Spring issue is now available as well:
In this issue, I've shared my mom's Irish Soda Bread recipe which is absolutely to die for! The magazine can be ordered through Shabby Lane Shops.
Shabby Lane Shops also offers a Free EMag:
If you love Cottage Style, you'll enjoy looking through this. But be sure to pour yourself a cup of a tea. You won't want to stop looking!

White Peacock Purse
We had more snow last night and more is expected tonight into tomorrow. This has been some Winter! And I sure do hope that we're coming to the end of it! Thankfully, the sun is out now.
My White Peacock Purse is coming along. I started doing some beading on it this morning:
The lime green patch on the left was just a little too intense so I added a lace overly on part of it which tones it down a bit. The trim along the edge is a ribbon type yarn, gathered and hand sewn down.
Here are a couple of close ups of the beaded seams I was working on this morning:
I finished up a couple of pretty little Easter Bunny Brooches yesterday. I'll have photos of those this coming week. And mom made a few Easter door hangers so I'll share those this week as well.

Mystery Purse
Well, it looks like we have a correct guess on my mystery purse. Before I give you the correct answer, here is an update photo:
And here are close up photos of the seam treatments so far:
So what is the theme of this crazy quilt purse? Cris in MT guessed correctly. It'll be a peacock! A white peacock. Be sure to follow my progress! I have a unique way of doing peacocks on my crazy quilt pieces!

Have You Ever Been To France?
I've been stitching away and finished another project. Well, I finished stitching it:
I'll finish this into a pretty Cottage style pillow with some lace around the outside. My plan is to sew it up tomorrow afternoon. The image is from a vintage Christmas card. Can you find the little snowman? It's a little Mill Hill charm.
I also finished up my Peacock Purse:
This is a Christmas gift for my mom. She'll have a cow I'm sure! She keeps telling me that she wants one but she wouldn't use it because it might get dirty so I'm not to make her one. Yeah, right! You can ask my mom, I never do what I'm told! Ha, ha, ha! I'll let you know what she says on Christmas when she opens the package!
If you've never been to France, you might enjoy a visit to Allie's blog. She recently won a trip to France from The DMC Corporation! There are awesome photos on her blog:
Be sure to read Part 1 of Touring The DMC Factory first.
And Part 2 of The DMC Factory is here.
I was so taken with all the wonderful photos from DMC's archives. I love history. Esp. needlework history so getting to see DMC's factory through Allies experience has been wonderful for me! I hope you enjoy it too!

Peacock Purse Ready To Assemble
I finished up the stitching on my Crazy Quilt Peacock Purse and even crocheted so pretty fuzzy trim for the bottom of the bag:
Here's a close up photo of the peacock:
And some more close up photos of the stitching and embellishments:
I hope to get this assembled this week a long with a few other things. The cellphone pouches that I made need to be put together as well.
I want to make a few small crazy quilt Christmas tree ornaments but again, I need to get to my sewing machine for that.

Peacock Still Under Construction
This purse is larger than what I usually make and I think that's why it's taking me longer than planned. And I'm still working on reorganizing my things in my room here. But here's another update on the Crazy Quilt Purple Peacock Purse:
I really just have a few more do-dads to add to this. It's a gift for my mom for Christmas. She doesn't read my blog and knowing mom, she probably won't use it. Instead, she'll hang it on the wall and look at it. You know, she thinks if she uses it, it might get dirty.
Everyone I make something for tells me they can't use it because it could get dirty or ruined or whatever. We can't take our nice things with us. We have to enjoy them now. I use my handmade purses all the time and they aren't dirty, nor has anything ever come off of one of them.
Use your nice things everyone! These things are here for us to enjoy! Here and now!

Still Stitching On Peacock Purse
Do you ever feel like you can't get anything done? I kind of feel like I've been stitching on this Peacock Purse forever! Here's an updated photo:
At least I have the tail feathers on now! I hope to complete this tomorrow.
I spent today doing laundry and trying to reorganize some things in my craft storage room. It really isn't my craft room because I don't do any crafting in here. My computer is in here and I store my supplies in here but I don't like it looking like a supply room. I want to get it all neatened up and organized before Christmas because after the holidays, I want to repaint a few of my rooms and this one of them. I want to paint it pink. Are you surprised? LOL!

Guess Again!
I've been trying to get to blogging all day! I ran and got groceries this morning, came home, put everything away, trimmed a bunch of trees in my yard and have been doing laundry. I have 3 more Rose Of Sharon trees to trim and 2 more Lilacs. I'll have to do that during the week. I ran out of steam!
Okay, does anyone want to take another guess on the theme of my current Crazy Quilt purse project?
I'm so surprised that the photo of the fancy yarns and the vintage brooch didn't give it away:
I've made so many of these! Be sure to stop by for the next update. The tail feathers go on next!

Crazy Quilt Peacock Purse
Yesterday kind of turned into one of those crazy days. Silly little things kept coming up and I never got around to any stitching time.
For today, I thought I'd share a previous project. This is my Crazy Quilt Peacock Purse:
I know some of you have seen it before and maybe some of you haven't. I've been wanting to make another Peacock Purse in pink. My sweet friend Mary Anne sent me some pink eyelash yarn awhile back for it but it's still on my list! So many great ideas!
I have to run to the Post Office this morning but first, I will be stitching for at least one hour!
Have a great day everyone!

Marie Antoinette Purse Block Completed!
I finished stitching this yesterday and so much wanted to sew it together today but after washing my floors, doing laundry, washing a few windows and putting a few packages together for shipping, I was out of steam:

My plan now is to put it together on Thursday when I get back from picking up groceries.
I did run my sewing machine yesterday. I pieced some Autumn themed cat dolls and another purse block. I stitched a little bit this afternoon but not enough for sharing.
In other news, we had some of the pin-striping done on the Model A this weekend:
![]()

What you see in these photos is the gas tank. Bubba had to have the pin-striping done on that before he could put it in the car permanently. It's getting there! It looks more and more like a real car everyday!
Be sure to stop by on Thursday for my next Guest Blogger post! There will be lots of beautiful photos of my guest's creations!!!
Finally for today, enter to win my Sewing Art Quilt. The drawing will take place when my blog reaches 300 followers:

Details can be found in this post.
Finally for today, my Peacock Purse was included in this lovely Etsy Treasury. Please hop over see it. It's a lovely a Treasury!!

Pams Peacock Tutorial For Crazy Quilting
Hello everyone! As promised, I've put together the tutorial for the peacock that I use on my crazy quilts. Peacocks were a very popular motif with the Victorians. They loved anything exotic! I've seen photos of Victorian crazy quilts with embroidered peacocks, satin stitched peacocks, cross stitched peacocks and painted peacocks! I myself have even used real peacock feathers on my crazy quilts.
This particular project is my own original design. I own the copyright! Please do not sell the pattern or the instructions. You may of course post a link on your blog or website to this tutorial. All I ask is that you give me credit as the designer.
I've taken a lot of photos to make it easy to understand so here goes! First, you'll need the pattern:
Print the pattern and trace it onto tracing paper. Next, pin the pattern onto your block:
Stitch the outline of the peacock using a stem stitch. I used #5 Pearl cotton to stitch the outline. I used 3 strands of embroidery floss to stem stitch the branch. I did not stitch the leaves this time. And I do not stitch the top of the tail feathers. That's for placement purposes only.
Once you have the stem stitching complete, carefully tear away the tracing paper and carefully remove from underneath your stitches:
You may need to use a pin or needle help get the paper out but it should pull out easily as the stitches pierce the paper:
Next, you'll want to fill in the peacock with long & short stitches. I used a darker blue in DMC Rayon thread with 3 strands. I know, call my crazy!!! Rayon is hard to stitch with because it's so slippery but I love the shine of it and it does fill in nicely. You can use silk threads or cotton threads, whatever you're comfortable with:
Now for the fun part! The tail!!! You need some eyelash yarn in a coordinating color. Cut 12 strands approx. 10 inches long. (You can always trim them down a bit later.) You'll also need a glue stick and a small floral brooch or pin:
Lay them all out on top of each other and then using some bead thread, tie them together in the center:
Leave the bead thread strands long enough to pull through the fabric.
Next, fold the yarn bundle in 1/2 where the bead thread knot is. Thread a needle with one strand of the bead thread and pull through to the back of your block:
Repeat with the other end of the bead thread, pulling to the back side of your block about 1/8 of inch from where the first one is:
The photo above is the back side of the block. Tie a double or triple knot with the bead thread strands and then weave the strands under the stitching of the peacock body.
Turn your block back to the front and using a glue stick, add a bit of glue at the top of the tail:
The purpose of adding a bit of glue is to hold the bottom layer of the yarn to fabric temporarily. This step is optional but I've done quite a few of these and find that it helps to have that bottom layer held in place while I do the beading.
The next step is to add a brooch. I usually use something that looks like leaves or a flower or something swirly and abstract. I buy inexpensive vintage jewelry pieces at flea markets and antique shops. If you don't have a rhinestone brooch, you can use a pretty button or a new piece of jewelry.
I pin my brooch on and then I also sew it down with bead thread.
Next, you'll want to add the "eyes" in the tail feathers. Use beads or sequins, whatever you like that adds some sparkle and holds the eyelash yarn in place:
Sewing the beads or sequins down should help to hold the "tail feathers" in place. You may need to tack the eyelash yarn here and there as well. Look close at this last photo. I leave a bit of the tail to just dangle. It's only tacked down to about where the beads on the tail end.
You may want to trim your tail a little bit but I recommend that you wait until you sew your project together and then trim it. When you do your finishing, you'll want to pin up those dangling feathers so they don't get caught in your seam.
So there you have it! That's how I do my peacocks. I hope this tutorial was clear and easy for you to follow. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll be happy to answer them!
