I haven't been feeling well for the past few days. More Zoloft withdrawals. But I do feel a bit more on the planet. Not sure I'm liking reality these days but I certainly have my diversions.
Bubba cleaned and resealed our deck over the weekend. It looks so nice! This coming weekend, we're going to dig all the perennials out of the garden. Come Spring, I want to put together a container garden with herbs and annuals. Should be easier for me to take care of and I just love herbs. They smell so good! The weather this coming weekend looks like it will be about 75 degrees and sunny. Perfect for getting that job done. Scott will dig and I will haul it out back.
Mom is doing pretty well. She's having some withdrawals from cutting back on the pain medication. It's aggravating her BiPolar but other than that, she's healing well. She only has to wear the brace for 8 more days. I've been able to do her hair for her and will do it again tomorrow. I'll see if she's up to writing. If she is, I'll take the laptop over so she can write a blog post. Mom really enjoys doing that.
Kathi and I went to a Fiber show on Saturday. It was on a farm in Delavan Wisconsin. Wonderful and so fun! We saw how they shear the sheep!!! Too cool! I picked up a few things. I really love needle felting. It gives me something more to stitch on! Will share my latest needle felting project later. I just have to do the finishing on it.
I added a few more things to shop over the weekend. A couple of mom's Christmas Tussy Mussy's:
And I added 2 more of my framed Crazy Quilt pieces:
I'm finishing up on a custom order today and I'm looking forward to starting on my Marie Antoinette quilt. The seasonal affective disorder is already setting in. But it really is pretty outside. I do love October!
I made a big pot of Italian soup yesterday. I want to share the recipe with you since it's easy and healthy. I'll try to get that posted later today.
For now, I need to stitch.

Book Review - The Handmade Market Place
A few years back, who would have thought there would be a book available on how to sell handmade items online, at craft shows and in brick & mortar stores? Handmade is all the rage these days and I think it's going to continue to grow. People are tired of mass produced, poorly made, big box store items. People want quality. People want things that will last and things that are made with love and care. Shoppers are looking for a more old-fashioned way of life and they're starting with buying handmade.
I picked up Kari Chapin's "The Handmade Marketplace" over the weekend. It was an easy read, filled with warmth & humor and I can honestly tell you that Kari doesn't miss a thing!
This book covers everything from branding your business (I didn't understand what that was until I read the book) to dealing with taxes & paperwork to advertising both online and in the real world.
Kari discusses photographing your work, blogging, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and how to choose which online marketplace is right for you.
Loaded with tips and helpful suggestions from some of the most successful crafters in today's world, I strongly recommend that if you plan to open an online shop (or if you already have one) or if you plan to work craft shows, farmers markets and the like, this book is a must read.
I was thankful to find out that I've already been doing much of what Kari's book covers but I learned a few things and I'm thrilled to have a handbook where all the info is in one place. If you love making things like I do, pick this one up. You won't be sorry.
Before I head out today, I'll leave you with mom's latest creations, Victorian Halloween Tussy Mussy's:
These are available here.

This And That
First, I'd like to welcome my new followers! I truly hope you enjoy my posts. I offer tutorials, recipes, guest bloggers and tons of needlework & craft eye candy! I'd love to hear how you found my blog.
I've been busy the past few days, stitching on some little Halloween Crazy Quilt Cat Dolls! Here are the first 2:

I have a few more in progress but these are available in the shop now. I think I'll do an Autumn purse when I complete the next litter of Halloween kitties!
Also in the shop are some new Scarecrow Tussy Mussy's by mom:

There are 6 different Scarecrow Tussy Mussy's available, each one is different and so cute! Mom is now working on some Halloween Tussy Mussy's!
Does anyone else feel like it's August already? I don't know what it is but I feel like I should be putting out a few sunflowers and mums! Maybe it's the extreme heat we've had the past few weeks. Feels like I should be baking apple pies & carrot cake!
I've had Autumn on my mind a lot lately and came up with these sweet little Spider Web Needlekeepers:

I just love doing spider webs on Crazyquilts but wanted to make a few needle-keepers. I'm planning on making a few more of these, not necessarily with spiderwebs but perhaps some flowers. When I do, I'll write up a tutorial for you. I'm going to make 1 little change to how I put them together next time.
In other news, Bubba has the gas tank in the Model A:

And he has the fenders on it:

Every day is getting a little closer!!! Scott's been working on it for 7 years now! If you would like to see more photos of our 1929 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan, click here to visit my Flickr site.
Last week I mentioned that I plan to write some articles on coping with disorders such as ADD/ADHD, BiPolar, depression, anxiety and Seasonal Affective Disorder Syndrome using creativity to ease the symptoms. From personal experience, I think it's safe to say that I've become quite the expert on the subject. I like to keep my blog cheerful and uplifting so I won't be complaining about these things. I've been able to see much of my disorders with a sense of humor! I just want to help others who who suffer with these things. I want other women to know that they're not alone and that artistic creativity is tool that we can use to work with the disorders rather than fighting them constantly. I'll be starting this series of discussions in the next day or so.
I joined the Sister In Bloggerette Sorority at Some Days Are Diamonds blog:
Please hop over to Karen's blog and read about it! Join too! I think it'll be fun!
Well, I could swear there was something else I wanted to talk about today but it now eludes me. I think my brain is fried for the day! I'll leave you with my sister's newest pair of earrings:

These gorgeous green quartz earrings remind of Jadite Fire King! They are so pretty in person!!! And, they are available here.

History Of Victorian Tussy Mussy's
My mom just goes to town on these:

Tussy mussy's are so beautiful and it never ceases to amaze me how Mom makes each one is prettier than the last! I know she has some more in the works.
Today, our Tussy Mussy's are used of course for weddings but we also use them as ornaments, gift holders and home decor just because they're pretty! Mom's of course are adornments but many paper crafter's make them as gifts and fill them with candies & cookies, laces & other sewing trinkets and all sorts of little bits & bobs.
Don't you just love old-fashioned things? I do!
Mom's Tussy Mussys are available for purchase in our Boutique!
I have a couple of finishes to share with you too. I made these over the weekend for gifts:

I don't know why I suddenly have a thing for making birdbaths out of vintage glassware! I just love making these! I've done what, about 6 of them now? And there will be more I'm sure! One of these days, I'll make one for myself!
I've been a busy bee all day today. I ran my sewing machine and sewed up a whole pile of fun new projects.
Some Crazy Quilt cat dolls, some Crazy Quilt hanging pillows, some sachets and several new art quilts. Oh, I'm just itching to play with those! But I must finish up the little CQ door knob hanger that I'm working on now.

Tussy mussy's have become quite popular again. During the 1700's, pestilence was quite prevalent while indoor plumbing was not. Ladies would carry little bouquets of herbs and flowers to avoid the unpleasant odors around them.
In the Victorian era, every flower had a meaning. Gentlemen callers would offer a floral bouquet to their sweethearts and the girls would have to decipher the meaning of the flowers chosen for them using a book called, Tussy Dictionary.

Little Things
What is it about "little things" that we women just love? Beads & buttons, bits of lace & trim, cookies & cupcakes and anything that sparkles. We love them, we gather them and we hunt them down!
Several years ago, Scott went to a wedding. I couldn't go because our windows were being replaced that weekend. Anyway, a poem was recited at the wedding and Scott asked for a copy because it reminded him of me and all the little things that I love.
Several years ago, Scott went to a wedding. I couldn't go because our windows were being replaced that weekend. Anyway, a poem was recited at the wedding and Scott asked for a copy because it reminded him of me and all the little things that I love.
LITTLE THINGS
It's the little things
that let you know
Not the words or fancy show
It's the little things
Lovers do
That say so much
With words so few.
A gesture of warmth
A moment of care
The little things
Lovers share
An intimate glance
Encompassing two
The way you touch me
The way I touch you.
The smiling eyes
That trust and know
These little things
Set hearts aglow.
Watch for them
Look for them
With Open heart greet
The gestures of Love
That flavor life sweet!
So if seeds of Love
You want to sew
Start with the little things
And watch them grow!
I was so taken with this poem. Not because of the poem itself, but because it made my husband think of me. It's just one of those little things. I guess I'm sort of funny that way. I get all excited when he brings home a piece of bubble wrap or a couple of small boxes for me for shipping. It's not what he does, it's the thought.
I really love little things. Tiny seashells, old keys, kittens and puppies, flowers and even certain bugs. Nothing that bites or stings! I even like spiders. I'm fascinated with them! I don't want them on me, but I like to look at them.
As as you know, I like to make little things. After doing those last 3 crazy quilt ornaments, I decided to sew up a few blocks to make more. Here is the next one I'll be stitching on:
When I finish up here on the computer, I'm going to relax and stitch on this and watch me some Food Channel!
Here's another little thing I loved making:
My little "Altered Art Cherub". I saw this in the thrift store uptown and it reminded me of a friend of mine. Someone whom I haven't sent anything to in quite awhile. I like to send out little surprise gifts or cards now and then. People will always remember how you made them feel. I like to make people feel special.
Anyway, this little angel was all white. As you can see, I painted him, set him up in a small wire basket (also from the thrift store) and created a garden around him. Of course I added glitter.
I so enjoy taking little odds & ends of what most people would call "junk" and turning it into a lovely treasure.
Here is another of my "trash to treasure" pieces:
This was a tea-light holder. Another thrift shop find. Now it's Two Doves On A Birdbath. It was white so again, I painted it and added a glass lid from a perfume bottle. Then I grew the garden!
Another little thing I like to play with is paper. I made these 5 little Violet Gift Tags at mom's the other day:
I had some tiny little vintage greeting cards with violets on them. I thought they would be nice for Spring birthdays!
Mom likes to make little things too. Here is her latest Mother's Day Tussy Mussy:
Just look at those sweet little kitties!
Well, I'm off to stitch. At least until the dryer shuts off. Speaking of little things, my husband just ran uptown for a car part. He stopped at McDonald's and bought me a small fry. Love those little things!

A Trip To JoAnn Fabrics Store
We went up to JoAnn's today. Just needed to get out a little really. I picked up some beads, a couple of purse handles, a few spools of bead thread, some felt and some flowers that were marked down. The felt was 4 for $1.00 if anyone needs some! Anyway, just needed some basic supplies. There was some fabric that I was drooling all over but my husband reminded me that I have plenty of fancy fabric. I told him that I didn't have any like that and he said it'll be there next time. Okay, I get the hint! Ha, ha, ha! Actually, he couldn't care less what I buy. He puts things in my cart that he thinks I need. What a guy!
When we left there, we stopped at Wendy's for one of their little tiny cheeseburgers and we split a small fry and then came home where I have been doing laundry ever since. And then my husband asked for me some bread. He never asks for anything so I didn't want to say no. Thank goodness for my Kitchenaid. I made a loaf of wheat bread. It's on the second rise now so I can bake it in about 45 minutes. Should make the house smell really good. We'll have it with salad later.
I have a few new things to share today. Actually, I have loads of new things from mom and myself but I can only do so many at one time. First are my Orchid Greeting Tags:
The orchids are from a vintage greeting card. I really love making pretty tags. These would be so pretty on Birthday gifts or Mother's Day gifts.
Next are some more of Mom's Victorian Tussy Mussy's:
Those fuzzy little chicks are just too cute!
I'm getting ready to start stitching on some little Angel Brooches. First, I think I'll sit in a tub filled with bubbles and relax a bit with my magazines. Then I'll stitch for a bit. I'm definately feeling better. I noticed a bit of a change on Saturday. I feel a twinge more on the planet and not quite as "out there" as I felt. Still, I'm out of steam by 5:00 pm every day. So it's time to rest.
Speaking of resting, I'll leave you with a photos of my lazy little Simba:
He's really the sweetest little angel of a kitty. Doesn't bother anything or anyone. Very quiet and gentle. And definitely lazy! I think I want to be a cat in my next life and live with someone like me!

Let Them Eat Cake! And Cookies!!!
I'm getting ready to mix up some Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookie dough and Chocolate Orange Sugar Cookie dough. I'm going to put the dough in the fridge and bake them in the morning. I confess, I really love cookies! And chocolate! And I don't quite have the will power that I used to have. Esp. with my mom's cookies! She was baking when I arrived at her house this morning and oh, I love that! Reminds me of when I was little. I would get home from school to find mom baking and that awesome scent floating around in the house!
But since the cookies aren't ready yet, Let Them Eat Cake!!! I told you I was into Marie Antoinette. Well, I made a Marie Antoinette Blank Journel:

Isn't this cool? Lot's of places to use glitter on here! These do take awhile. I really had no idea how time consuming they were. The front and backs are covered as are the inside covers. I always do a sweet little envelope and a matching bookmark. I'm wanting to make some fabric journal covers. Would give me a chance to run my sewing machine!
This Blank Journal is a custom order. It's for a little girl so my client didn't want a ton of glitter on it:

The only glitter on this journal is on the vintage card that I used. I figured the card is at least 50 years old. If the glitter stayed on that long, it's not going to go anywhere now!
So while I was making journals, mom was making more Tussy Mussy's:

I just love these! And my mom is so into mixed media now! I never expected it from her. She's always been so traditional. She asked me to bring her more of my Somerset Studio magazines and some of my Cottage Style decorating magazines. I guess you can teach old dogs new tricks. Not that I think of my mom as old because I don't. We're actually like 2 little kids playing with the craft supplies!
In other news, I've noticed a bit more improvement regarding this horrible depression that I've been living with. Mornings and evenings are still not good but, I noticed the past couple of days, that I feel a bit more on the planet. It still goes back and forth but I know that feeling grounded will eventually take over and stay put.
I'll tell you, this whole depression thing has been like living in a Stephen King novel. And now I know where he comes up with all that weird stuff. He suffers from severe depression. Edgar Allen Poe had severe Bi-Polar. He's another one with the weirdo stories and due to my experience the past year, I could write some of that creepy stuff too but I'd rather not remember it. I really prefer to think of fuzzy little fluffy things like puppies, kitties, birds and butterflies!
I'm told, in time, that I will forget much of this experience. I say thank God for that! Quite honestly though, I would find it hard to believe that someone who went through this would not be changed by it. I've been dealing with depression all my life and didn't even know. The "off the charts" anxiety was always obvious to me but the depression wasn't. It's my severe anxiety that goes with my ADD that causes the depression. Still, I've never had an episode like this before. And don't care to ever go through it again.
I'm off to run that Kitchenaid!
