Back From Beautiful Kentucky!

I'm back! And did I ever have a great time! Kentucky is such a beautiful state! Hotter than Billy Blue Blazes but absolutely beautiful!

As I mentioned before I left, we went to the Streetrod Nationals which are held at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds in Louisville. My father in law has an antique car:



Is his car gorgeous or what? It's a 1931 Ford Model A Roadster. I've been riding in it and I can't tell you how much fun that is!

I won't bore you with too many car photos but here are 2 more:



I believe this is a Model A as well but I can't tell you what year it is. I'm not that good at it yet! Honestly, I prefer them with fenders and running boards and the traditional bumpers. This one is quite customized.

Last but not least:



I think this is a Model A Coupe. It's a bit more classic than the green one.

There were something like 11,000 antique cars at the show all 1948 and older. We didn't see them all. I mean honestly, there's only so many cars a person can deal with looking at in a few short days!

My shopping day with Karen South was so much fun! I feel like I had known her all my life. She is so sweet and fun to talk to and the day went by way too fast!

First, Karen took me to the Louisville Airport to see the antique crazy quilt. Oh my goodness! If you get the chance, you simply must see it! It's the most beautiful antique CQ I've ever seen! And if you would like to see a photo of me by the quilt, hop over to Karen's blog! It's not the best photo of me as my jaw was hanging on the floor but I'm sure you'll be able to tell how thrilled I was to see it in person!

Next, Karen took me to Baer's Fabric store in downtown Louisville. Ladies, I was in heaven! This has to be the greatest fabric store in the US! It's a crazy quilters dreamland! Here's a small sampling of the goodies that I bought for myself:





I also bought a few little pre-packaged remnant packs and a couple of trims.

Then Karen took me to a bead store:



Everything except the Cats Eye Beads came from the bead store that Karen took me to. I bought the Cats Eye beads at Women's World on the fair grounds.

I felt really sad when my day with Karen was over but I know I'll get to spend some more time with her again next year. She gave me a wonderful little goody pack filled with fancy fabrics and trims so I plan to spend my afternoon today playing with all of my new pretties! Thank you Karen for such a lovely day!!!

Blue Santa Ornament - Stitching Complete!

I finished up this little ornament yesterday afternoon:



This one is already spoken for so I'll get it sewn up as soon as I get back from vacation.

And speaking of vacation, we'll be leaving first thing tomorrow morning for Kentucky. We're going to the Streetrod Nationals in Louisville. So this will be my last post until Tuesday the 7th.

And guess what? I'm going to get to meet Karen South! As you know if you read Karen's blog, she lives in Louisville. I ordered some fabric packs from Karen last week and mentioned to her that we would be in her neck of the woods and she offered to take me to a big fabric warehouse store and a bead store! Oh, and she asked if I would like to see the antique crazy quilt at the Louisville airport! How cool is that? So Thursday is my fun shopping day with Karen.

We'll be at the fairgrounds for the car show all day on Friday and then on Saturday, Scott and I are going to visit Bardstown which is just south of Louisville. Bardstown is a pretty little historical town with buildings dating to the 1700's if I remember correctly. They have lots of little shops and ya'll know I love looking in little shops!

We'll spend Sunday morning back at the car show and then head home around noon. I'll need Monday to get my brains back in my head! I just get so "all over the map" right before and right after a trip. We'll have to get groceries and do laundry and all that stuff so I'll be back to posting on Tuesday.

Another Vintage Pattern For Embroidered Doily

This is another antique pattern from my collection. It's from a newspaper dated May 18, 1913:



As you can see, it barely fit on the scanner. Click on the image to go to my Flickr site where you can download the larger version.

I'm not sure I'd want to stitch all of those French Knots but you can substitute seed beads for them.

If anyone stitches this pattern, I would love to see a photo.
