100 Details In 100 Days - Day 53

Motif Blackwork Maple Leaf
Originally uploaded by Kitty And Me.
I noticed just this week, that the sun has changed position a bit and it's very much looking like late Summer outside now. With Autumn moving closer and closer here in the US, I thought I would do another crazyquilt motif with that theme.

This little blackwork maple leaf design can be worked in the thread color of your choice. Try a varigated thread or one of those wonderful overdyeds! Try adding seed beads for some sparkle. For those of you who are like me and can't seem let go of Summer, stitch it in green! Of course, for a traditional blackwork design, work it entirely in black thread. A metallic gold thread would look stunning too!

I would use 2 strands for the outline of the leaf and then 1 strand for the blackwork pattern.

Halloween Block 2

Halloween 2

I started on this little Halloween block yesterday. I really want to break away from my usual and comfortable stitches but I've found that these seem to be the best for the little 5 inch blocks. I plan to broaden my stitch variety when I get back to doing some larger blocks.

In the meantime, I'll be adding my signature cat to the black patch on the bottom right and then a spider and web to the orange patch on the bottom left. I really love doing spiderwebs! And I see room for some buttons to the right of the image where I didn't expand my image background far enough. A nice thing about crazyquilting is that you can always find a way to hide your mistakes! And somewhere, I think I have a little pumpkin button so I'll have to look for that and maybe use on this piece.

This can be crayon tinted and then embroidered or just outline stitched. Try adding some red or purple beads for berries. Also, if you have graphic software, you can size this to fit your needs.

Again, I'm not great at cleaning up hand drawn patterns on the computer but I'm sure this is enough for you to work from.

Has anyone stitched one of my patterns from the 100 Days project yet? I'd love to see photos and will gladly post them here on my blog if you're interested in sharing.

Show & Tell

I started this little Crinoline Lady right before I went on vacation. I completed the stitching yesterday and then just now, added the seed beads. She's from my vintage transfer collection and as you can see, I did a bit of crayon tinting.

My next project will be this 5 inch Halloween block. As I mentioned before I went out of town, I'm doing 3 of these so this is 2nd in the series.

Halloween 2

So, you're probably all wondering where I was huh? Well, my husband and I drove down to Louisville Kentucky for the Streetrod Nationals. It's the biggest antique car show in the US. My father in law owns a beautiful 1931 Ford Model A Roadster and he's been to the Streetrod Nationals every year since they started it. He was receiving a special award for his yearly attendance and wanted Scott and I to be there. So that's what we did.

I must say, Kentucky is an incredibly beautiful state! We did some sight seeing and found some really neat places. One of them was Abraham Lincoln's birthplace! Very cool!

I'm still a bit out of sorts and need a few more days to get my brains back in my head. Hopefully over the weekend, I'll get our photos transfered to the computer and share some of them here.

Motif Black Cat

For all the cat lovers out there, today's crazyquilt detail is a little charted black cat. Imagine this stitched next to a straight seam! Embellish him with some SRE, or add a little ribbon collar with some beads or sequins!
Of course, you can stitch him in any color, I just have a thing for little black cats.
