Lace Butterfly Block

As you can see, I did alot of stitching on this yesterday. I beaded the butterfly with glass seed beads, Swarovski crystals and Czech glass fire-polished beads. My signature is there and all seams are covered now. I'm planning to add a few Mother Of Pearl buttons to this and then it will be ready to sew into a handbag.

I'm going to do some finishing on my sewing machine today and then stitch on this again some time this evening.

100 Details In 100 Days - Day 16

Many of you know that I'm rather fond of Blackwork. Blackwork was a popular form of needlework during the reign of Henry VIII. Also known as "Spanish Work", it was traditionally worked with black silk on white linen.

Blackwork can lend itself nicely to crazy quilting. The repeating patterns can be used to fill in a rather plain patch, or use it along a seam. Try running one of these borders along a length of ribbon and don't hesitate to use other colors. It doesn't have to be done in black.

Yes, you can do perfectly spaced chain stitches using waste canvas. I've charted out a basic chain for you and then did 2 more elaborate designs.

Strawberry Block Complete

I completed this yesterday afternoon. I added the little bit of tatting beneath the strawberry and beaded that. I was at an absolute loss as to what to do with that seam. I then shaded the strawberry with some oil pastels and then added some seed beads for the seeds. The tiny dragonfly charm filled the space below it.

Then I started on this project. I hand painted the butterfly and I'll be heavily beading it.

I'm not sure if I'll have time to stitch later. I'm off to a BBQ for the day.
