Winter Crazy Quilt Project 2011 - 2012

I won't start on this until the end of October or the beginning of November but it's ready to stitch so I thought I'd share it with you today.

My Winter Crazy Quilt project for this will be a Peacock Quilt:

This beautiful peacock design was a pre-stamped design on black satin.  I stitched it back in the 1980's and never finished it into anything.  I think it's the perfect focal point for a crazy quilt!

I want to stitch on the side pieces simultaneously so my dad made me 2 custom sized stitching frames.  I've already added the blocks to the frames and secured them with thumb tacks so this project is ready to stitch on.

If you're new to my blog, I cope with Seasonal Affective Disorder Syndrome, which has already set in by the way!  And it's only the end of August!  Anyway, I've found that having a Winter Crazy Quilt project to work on throughout the cold, snowy and dreary months, helps me to get through until Spring which is my favorite season.  By March or April, I'll have a nice finished crazy quilt to hang in my home.  This quilt will hang above the television in my bedroom.

Oh how beautiful. I wish I had one of those peacocks laying around the house that I could use.... You should sell stuff like that. I am going to get something together for this winter. The way I procrastinate I better start now and I hope for a better winter than last year. Hugs, Kim

I adore that peacock. In fact, I just used your tutorial from Pat Winter's first magazine to complete a piece for an online class with Sharon Boggons. I tried, unsuccessfully, to stitch a peacock onto my first CQ. I tried 4 times. The problem was tracing the image onto a block. I couldn't. So, I made 4 peacocks on different backgrounds, attempted to cut them out, and had disastrous results. I'm happy to say my result on linen worked well. Looking forward to seeing your progress on this great quilt. I'm currently working on an under the sea CQ that I hope to enter in my guild's show next spring. Your blog is inspiration.

WOW!!!! That peacock is simply sensational, Pam! To stitch anything on black satin would be more than most people would take on, I'm sure. This CQ is going to be stunning. I'm with you about using hoops and frames when I'm stitching, especially big projects. They can get so crumpled and creased with the constant handling, as well as the distortion you mentioned.

One of my favorite icons! What a beautiful centerpiece for a CQ. I can't wait to watch your progression! Take care, Connie

(sorry your depression has already set in)

Such a lovely peacock and so clever of you to use it as a focal point. The colours on this one are 'me', so I'm going to be watching this one progress with a lot of interest!
